What?

WHAT ARE THE EVENTS?

The events will be held on all equipment (Reformer, Chair, Cadillac, Barrels) and the Mat, which can include props such as the Stability Ball, Magic Circle, etc. The events will further be broken down into categories such as balance, coordination, strength, precision, etc. FEAR NOT! Inspired by the fact that Joseph Pilates himself was a circus performer at one time, all events have an element of fun fused into them. We can't tell you what they are now for then you could practice! There will be individual events and team events.

WHAT ARE WE BEING JUDGED UPON?

Because we are trying to make this fun and serious all at the same time, judging will be based on proper execution of the exercise while accomplishing the "challenge" of the event. In other words, there will be a clear goal of each event, but you can't sacrifice technique to achieve it. There will be events for pros and amateurs alike. No need to fear, enthusiasts! Your Teaser will not be competing with a pro's!

WHAT IF I'M NOT FAMILIAR WITH YOUR EQUIPMENT?

Pilates on Fifth features the equipment from Stott Pilates®. As we know that many of you are infinitely more familiar with other equipment brands, time will be allotted at the beginning of each round for individuals and teams to practice the exercise(s) on the equipment that we have before they dive right in.

Moreover, we will have at least one volunteer at each station who knows the recommended setting for the Stott Pilates® equipment like the back of his/her hand so that they can make it easier for the others to adapt.

On top of THAT, the events are structured such that the actual performance of the exercise is only part of the whole experience.  You should not find yourself at a disadvantage because you are more accustomed to Balanced Body’s reformer, or Peak Pilates’ Chair, etc.

ONLY THOSE REGISTERED will be on the list to get the special emails outlining all the details about the events and how to enter each. Sign up today!

CAN YOU PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION ON THE CHOSEN CHARITY?

Pilates in the Schools is a program created to address fitness, health and overall wellbeing for young people via the Pilates method. The program's initial years were spent conducting pilot studies with 5th graders (9-10 year age group), taking measurements for strength, balance and flexibility before, and then after, a 10 to 12 week Pilates program. Well, the results are in! As we all knew or suspected, Pilates effectively enhances not only physical wellbeing and competence, but also emotional and mental well being. The Pilates in the Schools Committee is now developing a workbook and DVD for greater distribution, providing guidelines and safety protocols for young people K-12. Donations to this program will assist us with the development of our materials and grant writing. All donations are fully tax deductible, as The Pilates Method Alliance is a registered 501(c)3 corporations.
