We discovered Pilates when we got back into dancing after working for four years in corporate Japan. Though we danced and performed in musical theater through high school and college, we graduated from Duke University in just three years and put dancing aside to move to Japan to pursue careers in international business. Fast forward four years sitting at desks in Japan and two years in graduate school at Columbia University and our once flexible bodies were TIGHT! Sure, we had "stayed fit" by running, walking, aerobics and occasional dance classes, but the combination of exercising in the morning and sitting all day at a desk does NOT a flexible, happy body make!
When we decided to dance again, we were STUNNED by the changes in our bodies - we almost felt like they weren’t ours! Not only had we lost flexibility in muscles and joints, but also we noticed definite changes in our posture. We had lost body awareness, some coordination and just general fluidity of movement. We had a steep hill to climb!
Practicing Pilates enabled us to climb this hill and regain our "pre-desk" bodies! By applying proper Pilates technique patiently and diligently to every exercise, we slowly but surely got our flexibility, posture and body awareness back! We danced as Radio City Rockettes, performed in a world tour with an internationally renowned magician and danced in two feature films. And if we can do it, so can you!

We founded The Pilates Academy International, a Pilates certification program focusing on mat, all Pilates equipment, anatomy, biomechanics and posture analysis in 2006 and have certified over 400 instructors to date. We were first certified through STOTT PILATES® and were Instructor Trainers for the company for nearly five years. In addition, we hold certifications from the National Academy of Sports Medicine, the American Council on Exercise and are working on our certification from The American College of Sports Medicine. We are certified GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® instructors and certified Cancer Exercise Specialists. We founded the Pink Ribbon Program with Doreen Puglisi in 2004 to help Breast Cancer Survivors regain strength and flexibility in the affected arm. We continue helping these women with "Pink Ribbon Pilates". We currently own and operate Manhattan’s largest Pilates studio, Pilates on Fifth. Come visit any time!
Pilates Instruction for How to do Pilates
From CIA analysts to Radio City Rockettes to Pilates trainers, identical twins Katherine and Kimberly Corp merged their diverse backgrounds to evolve into top notch Pilates instructors who thrive at teaching others how to do Pilates. The two opened their Manhattan fitness studio, Pilates on Fifth, in August of 2000 with the goal of sharing the fitness benefits of Pilates workouts with goal-oriented New Yorkers. After initially certifying with Stott Pilates and serving as instructor trainers for the company for five years, Katherine and Kimberly founded the Pilates Academy International to continue providing the highest quality Pilates exercise instruction available. Fitness enthusiasts from across the globe with a desire to learn how to do Pilates seek out the Pilates Academy International to be the best Pilates trainer they can be.
After embracing the entrepreneurial spirit and becoming Pilates instructors, Katherine and Kimberly furthered their exercise training with certification from the National Academy of Sports Medicine, the American Council on Exercise, ActivCore, GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS®. To get a great fat-burning workout (necessary for Pilates instructors too!), the two developed CARDIOLATES®, a rebounding program which combines the physiological and cardiovascular benefits of rebounding with the alignment principles of Pilates.
Fitness Workouts, Pilates DVDs and Videos
Katherine and Kimberly launched a Pilates website featuring full-length DVD quality Pilates workout videos in October of 2008. Additionally, they produce podcasts in both English and Japanese, thus providing a comprehensive video library for Pilates enthusiasts across the globe. The fitness videos on their Pilates website include workouts with the stability ball, BOSU, band, and body bar as well as equipment workouts on all the Pilates equipment. The two also have produced two fitness DVDs, “Pilates on the Go” and “CARDIOLATES®”, along with a full line of Pilates manuals and Pilates continuing education.
